The Toasters of Fortune Project began in January of 2012 as an expression of two broke travelers car hopping and backpacking across the back roads of America searching out diversity in language, regional folklore and iconic side road attractions. With a lot of now broken cameras, dwindling funds, day jobs and the two venturing in separate ways across the American South, the project has begun taking on new life. The underline story: how to make art and survive.
The project concentrates on expressing artistic revival despite instability, globally and nationally, in economic viability.
Simple. Art is a cultures' life's blood.
Without it the world can seam dull or harsh. But, with it comes hope and possibilities. Despite urban decay, loss of jobs and housing, many artists are flocking to inner cities to rebuild, bringing inner city gardening, small arts districts dedicated to education and enriching communities, and beautifying neighborhoods known for violent crime or deemed unlivable. In its wake, this movement builds a new landscape. This site has been designed to explore these many landscapes, where they came from and where they may go, from a local, a traveler, and point A to B.
